What Does Personal Umbrella Insurance Cover?
A personal umbrella policy is designed to add liability protection above qualifying underlying policies such as auto and home. If a covered liability claim exceeds those underlying limits, the umbrella may respond up to its own limit.
What it generally addresses: bodily injury and property damage you're liable for, certain personal injury claims, and legal defense costs, subject to the policy's terms.
What it generally does not address: damage to your own property, your own injuries, intentional acts, and business activities.
Umbrella policies typically require minimum liability limits on the underlying auto and home policies. That's why we review your current coverage before quoting one — sometimes the underlying limits need to be adjusted first.
